Jennifer is well known for her follow-through, preplanning and pitching in on the unit, no matter what the duty. She regularly picks up additional shifts, and as charge nurse, she is masterful at ensuring the nurses have all the support they need to provide exemplary care to their patients.
A patient presented to 13 South with severely matted hair. It really appeared that this patient's hair would have to be cut off, it was so matted. Jennifer asked me to take a little time with her and we worked at shampooing and working through the patient's hair with a comb. The two of us spent over an hour working through this patient's hair, strand by strand, and in the end, we were able to comb through it with no need to cut it. This definitely increased the patient's satisfaction.
Another example of Jennifer's kindness and patient-centeredness is when a patient didn't have a ride home and was going to have to be held over until the next day. Despite having worked a long 12-hour shift, Jennifer, took it upon herself to drive the patient home.
