The touch of compassion and demeanor of an Angel and the comfort that can only be provided by a mother, these are just a few ways that I would describe Deborah Post.
When I was brought in to the emergency room, I was frightened and nervous about the situation I was experiencing. I had dreaded the thought of being in an unfamiliar place, with strange people, a plethora of tests, the possibility of being hospitalized for the first time in my 29 years of life, and a nurse that wouldn’t connect with me on a personal level.
I was delightfully surprised and comforted when I encountered my DAISY Award nominee and Angel, Deborah. For me, comfort in a frightening situation provided by someone who can make me laugh with their sense of humor, make me smile when it is the last thing I want to do and takes time to explain every step of the process and reassures me that they will do everything they possibly can to help me.
It is no doubt that the emergency room was busy that evening, but Deborah was providing me with a level of care that made me feel like I was the only patient she was caring for that evening. She went out of her way to ensure that I was comfortable, providing a reassuring and friendly smile and words of support and encouragement which diminished the nervousness and fright that I was experiencing.
I will forever consider Deborah my Angel during my stay at Methodist Hospital.
