Without a doubt, almost every organization has promoters of life-long learning. At St. Jude, there are an abundance of encouragers of education; however, one nurse who dominates this field is Sherry Johnson, MSN, RN, CCRN, CPON, NC-BE. Not only does she take on the role of “top dog” for the promotion of life-long learning, her vast professional experience as an ICU nurse, Nursing Coordinator, Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager and now as the Director of Magnet and Quality programming affords her unique qualities in communicating with nurses across all settings.

Her mentoring skills are outstanding. She has encouraged many nurses to return to school and is never too busy to offer her support, critique a thesis, or help edit an abstract. Not a day goes by that Sherry’s office is not filled with nurses seeking expert patient care advice, management solutions, or answers to challenging Magnet or quality questions.

Her work ethic and dedication to St. Jude care delivery are inspiring, motivating and a force that leads staff towards excellence. Sherry epitomizes all the qualities of a DAISY Nurse. She deserves this award based on her many contributions to leadership, staff and the children of St. Jude. She defines nursing in all she does and examples for those she leads. I cannot think of a more deserving nurse to bestow this honor upon.

Her ability to demonstrate the art and science of nursing is something for all to aspire to and a blessing to the patients of St. Jude.
