Sara exemplifies the values and culture of BayCare and The DAISY Award. She is caring toward all our patients and our staff. She leads by example, she is always involved in creating an environment of teamwork and is very involved with our patients. She always looks for ways to make the patient's experience and that of their loved ones, a pleasant and positive one. She is truly a role model for every nurse and tech in our unit. She always has a smile in her face, always tries to see, and guides us to see the positive in every situation, handles difficult situations with the utmost professionalism. She is extremely approachable, and her door is always open for anyone to voice any concerns, or ask questions. She is constantly checking on us (her staff) to make sure we have the help we need to complete our tasks. She has constantly involved on the floor lending a hand with patients and staff. She creates charts in our breakroom that measure our unit goals for prompt discharges (within the 90-minute window), discharges before 9:00 am; utilization of the discharge lounge, our commit to sits, etc. If transport is delayed and everyone is busy, she also jumps in and helps transport a patient if necessary. She provides and instills in all of us to provide excellent patient care.
I really enjoy working with a manager like Sara. Working in healthcare can many times be very tough. Not only does our job take a physical toll, but also an emotional one. Sara is always attentive to all of us when we experience a loss, and she makes sure we all get the help we need to excel at our jobs as nurses. She encourages everyone to continue on with our education in BayCare and in furthering our careers. She makes the necessary accommodations to our schedule to allow for family emergencies, and school schedules. Everyone is really happy to work for her. I have stayed in St. Anthony's 5NW for three years now and will continue to be here for as long as she continues to be our manager.
