Jo is one of the night shift nurses on our Geriatric unit. Her calm spirit, as well as her giving nature, comes through in her patient care. Jo goes above and beyond for her patients and her co-workers. She is very knowledgeable in caring for our geriatric clientele and shows great compassion while working with this population. She is the calming influence in the middle of whatever storm is currently brewing on the unit and is able to calm even the most volatile patients. Jo does not hesitate to step in and provide the care needed by any patient, from showering the patients to changing diapers; you can always count on Jo to be in the thick of things. She takes great pride in the care she provides her patients.
Jo is also responsible for orienting the new nurses to the unit. You know when Jo has trained and precepted them, they will be well trained and conscientious of the care they provide and will be a well-rounded nurse by the time Jo has completed their training. She puts the same emphasis on training new nurses as she does in caring for her patients. Overall, Jo gives 110% to what she is doing each night she is here, be it charging the floor or percepting a new RN. Jo jumps in with both feet and makes sure things run smoothly. Everyone who works with Jo knows when they see her name on the schedule with theirs; it is going to be a good night.
