Mary Haefner took the time and energy to organize a family meeting that included providers from all the specialty groups caring for a young woman facing a complex and life-threatening illness. Mary collaborated with the patient's family to assure they could attend and arranged for an interpreter to be present. Mary then communicated with the Palliative Medicine Team to also be involved in the meeting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the patient and her family expressed their appreciation for the meeting. It made them feel they were deeply cared for by an expert team. Mary not only went above and beyond per patient, but she also set the entire Treatment Team up for success in providing holistic, patient-centered care. Thank you, Mary!
