Kayla Mapes is well known throughout the hospital for her compassion and energy. She is always courteous and helpful to others. She is highly respected by her peers and appreciated by her patients because of the way she treats others. Kayla adapts her plan of care to include and meet the age-specific and cultural needs of her patients. She is seen as a very positive person on the team and exhibits a "win-win" philosophy.
Kayla is efficient and thorough in her work and finishes the job in a timely manner. The combination of her high ethical standards and vast experiences enable her to be an excellent mentor to other employees. She is highly respected by those with whom she comes in contact and is an exemplary role model to others in the unit as well as the hospital. Kayla represents the hospital well as she strives for excellence in problem-solving and patient care.
Kayla's involvement in the hospital, community, and world are a testimony to her sense of compassion. She shows great concern for the welfare of others and is actively involved in finding solutions to difficult challenges. Kayla provides excellent care to her patients, often going the extra step to make sure the patients and family members are comfortable and secure.
A specific example of when Kayla went above and beyond was a few months ago; she was working in triage in the Emergency Department when a woman came to the front desk and stated there was a man in the parking structure that was having difficulty breathing and was unable to get into a wheelchair. Kayla took it upon herself with another co-worker, to take a wheelchair to the parking structure and assist the gentleman. When they arrived, they found a man sitting in the front seat of his van with his wife in the passenger seat. The man's wife was distraught, stating her husband could not breathe.
Kayla and her co-worker went to assist the man into the wheelchair when he suddenly collapsed and went pulse-less. Kayla jumped into action, starting CPR immediately. After two cycles of CPR were completed, the man did not regain pulses. Kayla's co-worker ran to the emergency response button in the parking structure. Security quickly responded and was told that they needed help. Shortly after the additional team arrived, great teamwork went on by all Froedtert employees. The gentleman regained pulses and was transported back to the Emergency Room.
Without Kayla's quick thinking, I feel the situation would have turned out much differently. Kayla is a true humanitarian and stated to me, "I was only doing my job". She was not just doing her job; she was trying to save someone's husband, father, and friend.
