I would like to recognize Emilie Gutierrez for her astute assessment of her patient's family member when making a telephone update. Emilie's patient was being admitted so she called his wife to notify her of her husband's condition. During Emilie's phone call, she observed the wife sounded ill, Emilie continued to question the wife's condition. The wife stated that she felt sick and was throwing up. This patient's wife was elderly and alone. Emilie stated to the wife she was going to call the police for a well check. EMS was called and the wife was brought to the Emergency Room. The wife was very sick and had a positive cardiac enzyme. If it wasn't for the dedication and compassion that Emily possesses, this patient would not have had the emergent care she desperately needed.
