I found Sandra to embody the perfect combination of competence, maturity, poise, and compassion. Having spent the last 36 years as a bedside nurse, I saw in her an ideal nurse and beautiful role model for nursing. She made me proud of the profession and hopeful for its future. Every interaction I had with her reflected her expert care. Not only was she competent but also emotionally available and generous with her time. I have cared for many people who shared my recent diagnosis (sepsis, respiratory failure, and hypoxia) but never really realized what a terrifying experience it could be. Even through the worst of it, Sandra remained extremely supportive on the physical and the emotional level. I was so very thankful she was my caregiver and am certain I would not have fared as well nor experienced such a recovery had she not been there for me.
