Lourdes Umbao was noted for an example of a very caring and compassionate nursing exchange between a very ill patient. She went well above and beyond her Break Nurse duties by delivering extraordinary care when she plainly saw a patient in need. She sprang into action when a patient complained of chest pains, she stepped up to the plate and handled the situation without delay. Once the emergent measures were achieved and the patient was considered stable by the physician, Lourdes pushed the patient to the higher level of care Telemetry Unit. Although she shared a brief moment with the patient, she made a difference; it was a defining moment. Lourdes created a unique relationship which is priceless.

Lourdes Umbao has been a change agent on 3West at Alameda Hospital. She has a positive attitude and has risen to every challenge that has been given to her. She also serves as a valuable resource on the unit and is highly respected by her peers. Lourdes leads by example and does not hesitate to jump in to help when there is an emergency on the unit. Lourdes has been with this organization for over 20 years which shows her commitment to the organization as well as her patients. She is very deserving of this award and I highly recommend her to be the next DAISY Award Recipient.
