Yessica Peraza has been part of our NCH story from early on. My little girl was transferred here from St. Marys as an "older" baby and Yessica quickly became family. From the 1st day, we had her she was very positive, joyful, and knowledgeable. She also took the time to get to know my daughter and myself, and that came in handy for being able to advocate for my daughter when I wasn't here and allows me to be more at ease on the days that Yessica is her nurse and I cannot be at the hospital.
On the days I am here it's awesome too. Yessica has become not only a sister/aunt to us but also a teacher; she has taught me about my daughter's care, i.e. g tube feedings and care, her medications, tricks to make her more comfortable. One other special way she has touched us, she felt comfortable sitting my daughter up for short periods of times, while intubated. Yessica understood that since she was extubated for 2.5 months prior that she misses being up and seeing around, and just being off of her back. You could see such joy in my little girl's eyes when she did this and that in turn made my heart happy. So, in so many words, Yessica is a very knowledgeable nurse with a wonderful bedside manner and a complete understanding of the "NICU family".
