A patient told me an amazing story about his last stay on 10 Tower. He was a patient here one year ago and was in a "bad way." Basically homeless, addicted to pain medications, and his family wouldn't have anything to do with him because of the fall-out from his addiction. He said he was admitted because he was retaining water, but Tammy could sense that something else was wrong. He was in a bad state emotionally and mentally due to his addiction. Tammy encouraged him and told him it was never too late for things to change. Tammy stood out, she always checked on him and would pray with him. Tammy gave him the phone number for the local homeless shelter and had a taxi ride for him at discharge. He said, "I'm a changed man because Tammy cared, she saved my life." His relationship with his family is restored and his mom was in the room and agreed with the whole story. His admit to Jane Phillips this time had him hoping he would see Tammy and when she walked into his room, he remembered her smile.
