Katie was fabulous while I had a family member in her care for over 21 days. After emergency surgery, he was sent to her unit and benefitted from her tremendous abilities. She listened, showed empathy, and even offered me coffee. She went above and beyond at all times. When he was in ICU she visited him and truly cared enough to make a special effort to ensure he was alright. Nurses' jobs are difficult and require someone who generally cares about people. Katie possesses those skills and more. She has a true compassion in her eyes and it showed when my family member was having a difficult time or hurting. She is personable, caring, compassionate, and empathetic. She set it up so that I could stay at the Beal House (similar to Ronald McDonald House), talked with the social worker when I had questions, personally called me when my family member needed me and always took the time to say hi and update me on how things were going. On one specific occasion, I asked that my family member be left alone to rest because he was having difficulty adjusting to the special beds and just could not sleep. Katie did her best to keep staff out of his room and keep adjacent areas quiet for as long as possible so that he could rest. She is an outstanding nurse!

I would like to thank Katie for the special care that she provided my dad. My very first visit was when he was admitted, and when I was introduced to her I knew she was something special. A twinkle in her eye, a spark in her voice, the tenderness in her heart and her sincere care for my dad!! I immediately could see that I could rest my mind when he was under her care, I travel an hour each way to visit him every day and the first question I had was did you have Katie today? She has an amazing soul and her passion for nursing that is unprecedented. When Katie enters the room Dad just smiles, he knows she cares so much. She calls us all by name and is always willing to help or better explain things so all of us understand. She is an amazing person inside and out and the VA is very fortunate to have her on their team. When she works with others she is very helpful and eager to do so, no matter what the workload she is facing and she does it all with a great big smile.
