I've worked with Alisha for a long time. She always has a great attitude and provides exceptional care to her patients, but I was really impressed with her care of one patient last week. He is a teenager who we have a long history with. His life has never been easy but had become more difficult due to some complications after transplant about a year ago. I had been seeing him for 3 or 4 months and felt like I was watching a slow decline, vague symptoms like poor sleep, med non-compliance, weight loss and a kid that I just couldn't crack. Social work was involved and not making progress either. He started missing appointments so the team worked hard to get him here and Alisha was on it. She spent probably 3 hours with him and social work where he disclosed how much he is struggling with life after transplant and how little support he has at home. Alisha went to work on getting this depressed child into counseling and when he said what he needed was support she was the first to say that she would call every week to check in with him during this transition. She's always a great nurse, but she definitely went above and beyond to help one child in serious need.
