Theresa Austin always manages to close the gap between patients, their families and members of the care team. This past Spring, Theresa was able to break the ice between a family in crisis and the rest of the care team. By connecting with family members on a personal level, they were able to grieve and eventually come to terms with the impending death of their daughter. This resulted in a better experience for the family amidst tragedy and improved communication with the care team.
A code stroke in the CT scan area with no one around would have thrown even the most seasoned clinician for a loop, but not Theresa. Even without a scanner or pump, Theresa was able to maneuver to get the patient into a safe situation in the ICU quickly.
And, earlier this month, Theresa was surprised with a beautiful bouquet of flowers along with a note that read, "Teresa, I just wanted to thank you with all my heart for the compassion you gave me during a scary time. You went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and didn't feel alone. I will remember and appreciate your kindness always!"
Great communication with families is a skill Theresa knows well and she never shies away from helping in difficult situations. She is well respected by fellow nurses and providers alike who appreciate her expertise, quick thinking, and compassionate care. Thank you, Theresa!
