Kara is an amazing nurse. I have never felt so confident about the care my husband has received as I was during his stay in 6ICU. She was very kind and patient with him in explaining what she was doing and his condition. As far as nursing skills, she's off the chart in my opinion. Always right on time with meds, especially pain meds. Always informed me what he was getting and why. Never tired of my constant questions. During an episode of A-Fib, got right on the phone with the doctor for his instructions. I'm still in awe as I watch her administer, chart, etc., all without flaw.
If that weren't enough, she's also a teacher to these young incoming nurses. She's patient with them and lets them attempt skills and rather than just taking the needle (or whatever) away from them and doing it herself (which I'm sure would be easier and certainly quicker), she guides them through the process, correcting and encouraging as she goes along.
When a student nurse was working with my husband, I still felt he was getting excellent care as Kara was right there observing her. The student showed confidence and I feel she will be an excellent nurse someday, in part because of her mentor, Kara.
Kara, you are a gem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
