My father, who is 84 years old, was recently hospitalized for ten days for a perforated bowel. Being a nurse myself, I knew the severity of my dad's diagnosis and the long road to recovery that we were looking at. While the care he received in the ED, Pre-op, and PACU were excellent, he spent most of his hospitalization in SICU and one nurse there was outstanding, to say the least. Brock Sanderson was so friendly from the start and made my dad smile the first day he cared for him. Mom and I were scared, nervous and tearful many times but Brock just gave us so much reassurance and listened (for much longer than he had time for I'm sure) to our concerns and fears. The teaching he did with both my parents, but especially my mom who would ultimately be his caregiver when finally at home, was just so thorough and non-intimidating or rushed. Brock checked on not only my dad but all my family so many times throughout his shift that we felt so comfortable that Dad was receiving the best care whether we were in the room or not. Dad is recovering right now at the VA and even though his care has been good there, nothing compares to the compassion and knowledge that Brock possesses. We attribute so much of Dad's miracle recovery to him. Brock absolutely holds a very special place in our hearts.
