April Rufener isn't the kind of nurse that lets "being in the hospital" get in the way of a good celebration. When she learned that her patient was having a birthday, his 75th to be exact, she went out of her way to make sure he had a memorable celebration. It was so meaningful for her patient that he nominated her for the DAISY Award, saying that April, "touched my heart so greatly there were no words." It is her personality and character to serve, that drives her to do simple acts of kindness for others, like this birthday gift, and singing happy birthday. Although, this was likely a small act of kindness from her to show, it meant the world to the patient and his loved ones. We are honored and privileged to have April and other nurses like her that give acts of kindness, pursue to provide flawless care and live to serve our community.
