Dorsey Mingo, RN is an ICU RN who was contracted at Bay Medical Center Sacred Heart in Panama City.
During the landfall of Hurricane Michael, he chose not to evacuate. He went in and stayed at the facility for a total of five days and nights. He remained post-storm until the hospital was forced to relocate patients due to the destruction of the hospital.
Before the storm, he was able to get his wife (who travels with him) out safely. He moved his RV inland to a local Walmart parking lot. Once the hurricane moved out of the area, and the hospital closed, he found himself outside the facility with no way of getting to his RV. He began to walk and continued until a passerby stopped and offered him a ride.
Upon arrival at the Walmart parking lot, his RV was found standing, but the roof had been torn off. There were several semi-trucks in the parking lot on their sides.
Dorsey's dedication to his family and the well-being of his patients is extraordinary and deserving of recognition.
