Shannon displays all of the PRIDE values of AHS in her role as RN Clinical Coordinator of One Hussey. She exemplifies the title of patient advocate daily in her dedication to her patients. She is a consistent reminder of what it means to be an excellent nurse.
Recently, Shannon took it upon herself to drop off a patient's phone charger that he had left behind upon discharge. During the visit to his home, Shannon causally asked the patient how he was doing. The patient proceeded to tell Shannon that he was having a great deal of difficulty understanding how and when to take his medications. He had been discharged on several cardiac medications which were new to him. Although, the medications had been explained to him prior to discharge, once he got home, he realized he didn't fully understand when to take the medications. Shannon realized he was overwhelmed and assured him that she would take care of it for him. She called Dr. G, who was the patients PCP, and reviewed the medications with him. She also made an appointment for the patient to see Dr. G, in his office, the following day.
In addition to the medication issue: the patient had been given a nebulizer to use at home, however, it was different from the one he had previously had and no instructions where given by the medical supply company that delivered it. Shannon instructed the patient on how to use the machine and made sure he was comfortable with using it before she left.
Shannon's selfless actions are not limited to this one occurrence. Shannon always gets involved in patient and family needs on a daily basis. She has gone over and above numerous times; making sure patients have the medications or equipment they need for a safe discharge. She often spends hours of her own time in resolving an issue for a patient or family member.
Shannon's display of professionalism, compassion and dedication to her patients makes her a role model not only for the staff of One Hussey but the entire AHS family.
