Our 9 month old son was admitted on Saturday and was discharged Monday. Shannon cared for us over the weekend. She was excellent at everything from getting him a regular diet right away to extra bubbles. I myself am a nurse and can appreciate being pulled in a 100 different directions and routinely forgetting requests. Shannon always responded to our request to attempt to make him more comfortable. She let us participate in planning his care right down to talking through when we should give him Tylenol to make him comfortable but not mask his fevers. It was four days and three nights of pure anxiety provoking terror. G, at home, had reach temps of over 106. By Sunday night I was frayed but he took a turn for the best. We ordered him supper and he finally ate and I started to cry. Shannon came in and she didn't look at me like I was crazy, only a loving mom. I felt that Shannon had a connection to our family and my son.
I want you to know how wonderful it was to not try and have to be nurse/mom just mom/mom for G. Shannon took care of everything else. G is our second child this year to be hospitalized and we have had great care every time.
Shannon, truly thank you for everything you did for us that weekend. G is doing very well. We had his re-check this last Monday and his labs were all normal and he is a happy 9 mo again; exactly what I wanted. I hope you continue for years to touch many lives. Thank you all again!
