I was brought to the ER and was quickly diagnosed with large bilateral pulmonary embolisms. This was a total shock to me and my family as I had just worked a 12 hour nursing shift and I assumed I was healthy. After care in the ER, I was transferred to the SICU where I received wonderful, attentive care. My night shift nurse, Beth Thoele, was absolutely wonderful. She provided detailed explanations of lab results and tests as well as what to expect next. She is oriented to the smallest details. I can't tell you how many times she untangled me from monitor wires and made my room more functional, so I could reach the things I needed. One night she even tracked down a laptop computer so I could work on an assignment for school. Most of all I am truly thankful for her ability to come to my bedside and "just talk"; this really helped to decrease my anxiety level. Thank you Beth!
