My mother who is 81, became very ill with possible food poisoning. She couldn't stop vomiting and became dehydrated very quickly. My mom lives in Pennsylvania and was here for a visit.
I was actually in my physical therapy practice when I got the call she had become ill. When I got there, I found my mom getting very weak and I had never seen her so ill. My nephew and I took her immediately to Mercy's ER. There were many people waiting in the ER that Monday and mom was becoming disoriented and failing quickly.
Carol, who I will call my mom's guardian angel nurse, came out of the ER and took one look at my mother and took her right back. Carol set her up immediately and with great compassion and skill. Carol put a heart monitor on mom, took labs and put in an IV line. Carol had the doctor see mom right away. Carol was kind, competent, thorough and calm. We all felt at ease with Carol in the room. She embodies what mercy (and Mercy) is all about. Carol's kindness, skill, and service to my mom will always be remembered.
