My grandmother is suffering from esophageal cancer. She has been undergoing both chemo and radiation to treat this cancer. As many cancer patients and their families know, this experience is living hell. My grandmother is 84 years old, but had the energy of a 60 year old before this treatment began. Her side-effects completely ruined her well-being both physically and mentally. When my grandmother finally admitted that she needed medical professionals to care for her, we brought her to this hospital. (By the way- she refused to let anyone stay with her during her treatments because she is so stubborn and independent.) It was very hard for my family to trust others to care for her because we all have control issues. When my grandmother's nurse, Megan, came into the room, she immediately earned my trust. She gave my grandmother the patience, time, and care that she needed and deserves. Whenever my grandmother had "accidents", Megan stepped in with no hesitation and cleaned her up without calling for any help. She made sure my grandmother did not feel embarrassed or degraded in anyway- which is what she needed most.
Megan also made sure that we were informed on EVERY detail of my grandmother's treatment. This nurse also "whipped" other nurses and staff into shape when it came to wearing the proper masks and gowns when coming into my grandmother's room. She didn't seem to care if the other staff members snarked at these requests because all she was concerned about was my grandmother's health.
Megan is a nurse above all other nurses. It is clear that she became a nurse for the right reasons. She actually cares for sick people. She is a true DAISY Nurse!
