There are days when each and every nurse comes to work and is put out of their comfort zone by floating to another unit. I'm nominating nurse Mika because she was my nurse in the adult emergency department on a day that she was floated from her home unit of the children's emergency department. Mika treated me with kindness and compassion. She treated me as if I was her only patient. On a day when I became ill while working my shift, I had to check in as a patient to the adult emergency department where I work. This in itself was quite embarrassing. I never felt embarrassed having Mika as my nurse. She was professional and empathetic. Upon being discharged that night I thanked nurse Mika, of course, but I decided to nominate her for the DAISY Award because in the times I have floated to the children's emergency department, I have come to find that Mika treats all her patients, no matter their age or diagnosis, with kindness, compassion, empathy, and professionalism.
