I just wanted to let you know what beautiful nurses and caregivers you have on 6B. Me and my husband, D, came on the floor recently. We had just found out 4 weeks before that D had 5th stage kidney disease. We were scared to come back to Mercy because we have had some bad experiences there (my mom and sister dying). We had to go there because D's doctor was there. The first nurse we met was Thomas and he so put us at ease right off the bat.
The more we were there the better he made us feel. For the first time in the hospital, I felt safe; because of Thomas. He figured out that D had a heart attack, he was in the room when this happened. He knew what tests to run to find out for sure. When D found out he had to have the angiogram he was so scared. The night before he was going to have it done he was wanting to cancel it. Thomas helped me talk him into going ahead and having it done.
Thank God we did because he had a 99% blockage in the widow maker. Thomas saved his life twice. He also kept an eye on me because my blood sugar kept dropping low, which had never happened before.
This has been such an overwhelming and scary time. I had a few break downs and Thomas always came in and talked to me and just listened and gave me good advice to help me feel better. He helped D so much too. He never gave up on him. He is the most compassionate, kind, and understanding nurse I have ever had the joy of meeting. I can tell he loves his job by how much he loves his patients and their families.
You always have that one who stands out and goes beyond to help. Thomas is that one. He's a rock star.
