Catie Parker stayed after her shift to remain with the mother and the patient's 9-year-old sister. Catie remained with the family while the patient was in OR, sadly the patient did not survive. The patient's mother asked Catie to help explain to her younger daughter what was going on with her sister. Catie stayed in contact with the OR for updates and when it was decided there was no hope, Catie remained with the mother and the sister, explained to the younger sister what was happening, and was supportive of the mother when the mother decided to end efforts to resuscitate her daughter. Catie made sure the family was with the patient right before she passed. Catie did not leave until six hours after her shift and remained with the mother and sister the entire time. This was a couple of hours after the patient passed. A perfect example of why we do this job. Catie's actions show the love and dedication the staff and our organization have for the community we serve and the amazing team of people we work with.
Catie went over and above to comfort and assist a family in what is probably safe to say the absolute worst moment of their lives.
