I was in charge this day and had just picked up a very critical patient from one of our other CVICU RNs so that she could recover a fresh CABG. After intubating, lining, and stabilizing this patient, I took him to CT with the RRT RN where we were greeted by Mary Eschel, who happened to be working as the Imaging RN that day.
During the CT, the RRT RN got pulled away on a rapid call and Mary offered to help me transport the patient back to CVICU. When we arrived back in CVICU, she assisted in helping me to settle the patient and saw how busy the unit was and overheard we were getting another admission. Mary had no further cases in imaging and offered to come over to help assist with the new surgical admission.
Mary was professional, polite, compassionate, and attentive towards her patient. She spent time explaining the reason for the patient's admission to the CVICU to both the patient and the patient's family members and answered all their questions.
Mary is an exceptional nurse, and the care she provides to all patients in this hospital is outstanding. She embodies what it means to be a team player and truly gives her help where ever it is needed at Good Shepherd.
Note: This is Mary's 2nd DAISY Award!
