My labor and delivery experience turned out to be quite the lengthy ordeal as it took 4 days to become 10 cm dilated after checking in for an induction. After achieving the goal, my contractions stopped and certain lab values like my creatinine, blood pressure, and liver enzymes all started to rise unfavorably. The decision was made to proceed with a last-minute C-section. Krystle Mangaccat was my first RN that night and was with me off and on until my last night in Woodland Hills. I was kept 4 extra days after delivery because my blood pressure would not come into normal range. The very first night I had a mini-meltdown because I was so uncomfortable being hooked up to all the monitors. Krystle was super friendly, intuitive and extremely calm. She talked me through everything and went above and beyond to give me sanity. That was a sleepless first night and even after my delivery/C-section Krystle again was present for a tiny anxiety attack after being cooped up in the post-partum room with my twins, best friend, and an army of staff coming in and out for blood, labs, checks, baby checks, etc. Krystle helped me assess the main issue that night and prioritize my feelings. My milk had come in, but I wasn't producing enough for 2 tiny humans! Plus, the walls were closing in on me. Krystle moved furniture around to help me think the room was bigger, gave me hot packs for my engorged breasts, ice packs for the pain in my back (after being in the hospital bed for 9 days) and gave me a mental break by sending me to get fresh air with a sandwich and fruit plate - plus a string cheese! Her kind words and compassion were the reason I didn't go stir crazy. Thank you, Krystle Mangaccat, for being an amazing human, an outstanding RN, and an overall exceptional Kaiser Permanente employee!
