The nursing care Jess provided was extraordinary as she attended to J's physical and emotional needs, as well as our family's needs for reassurance, comfort, encouragement, understanding, and need to know how, as family caregivers, we could best help J.
Nurse Jess was constantly attentive, available, and present. Even before we could or would ask for help, she was poking her head in the door to ask J if he needed anything. She always just knew what to say and do to make things better and less fearful. When J's initially prescribed pain medication did not provide an acceptable amount of pain relief, Nurse Jess worked diligently with the doctor to find just the right combination of meds to keep J comfortable. When there was a mix-up in ordering the walker J would need to leave the hospital, she was proactive and engaged the right internal staff and external providers to get what was needed in a timely manner so that he could leave the hospital on time with everything, including the walker, he would need at home.
When it was time for J to be released to go home, Nurse Jess patiently and thoroughly explained his release instructions and answered all of our questions and concerns, making sure we were well prepared for what was to come and to meet his needs.
Nurse Jess was our angel at a time of critical need. We hope you will acknowledge her special nursing skills, her beautiful personality, and the wonderful difference she made in our experience at the Johnston Willis 3-West Joint and Spine Unit.
