First, I want to recognize every nurse that was part of my health care at WRMC. However, there is one particular nurse that went above and beyond as far as I'm concerned. Katherine was one of my night nurses while I was here. She showed true diligence, kindness, faith, and love. She was the only nurse that took the time to recognize not just what I was here for, but that there may be a deeper underlying problem and she took the time to ask without judgment, and she showed true empathy as she took the time to listen and show concern and sympathy.
You see no one came to see me, to call and see if I was okay, so it was just me and this big lonely hospital, but for a few minutes of time, Katherine pulled back the layers and found out what else was going on besides the illness that got me here. I think she was truly surprised when I welled up with tears to tell her the following the same night I came here. I found out my youngest son has B cell lymphoma. I had been holding it in, so I could be strong for him. She made me realize I can do both- it was okay to break down and feel heartbroken yet be strong and fight with him!
Katherine giving me just those 10 or 15 minute made a huge difference in my outlook on things both where I was concerned and where my son is concerned! My thanks will never be enough for her compassion, kindness, understanding, and love of her job, for if she didn't love her job, I would never have seen the person behind the nurse.
