Rick starts his day with a kind smile and greeting to everyone he encounters. In a work environment that is often stressful, he checks in and offers to help where he can. If help is needed, he is usually a quick phone call away, and he sees to his requests even if he cannot make it immediately. He is always professional, mostly jovial, and can adapt tactics to assist in or diffuse even the tensest situations.
Rick helps the flow of the unit by assisting in transfers, transporting high acuity patients to imaging, difficult IV sticks, or equipment handling if needed. No task appears too big or too insignificant for him to help or provide input. Of course, he has a wealth of knowledge in critical care nursing and hospital resources to aid in any situation. He is very much a patient and staff advocate and his caring shows.
The team I work with has many outstanding nurses and we all try to help each other out. Often, our personalities get in the way of accepting help, but Rick is able to help while simultaneously boosting our confidence in the care we provide. If there was ever someone worthy of a "manly" DAISY Award, then Rapid Rick is that nurse. Thank you!
