Adrienne is a constant patient advocate in a department that relies more on patient advocacy than any other being that our patients are asleep. One particular case of this was a difficult intubation that was brought to the OR. Adrienne stood her ground, against pressure by physicians she has worked with for years, to advocate for the patient and to make sure the patient knew exactly what was going to happen as well as the potentially serious risks. It is not easy to stand up against teammates who are also friends. We in the OR advocate for our patients on a daily basis, sometimes putting ourselves in difficult situations, especially when others on the team feel differently or want to do what is "easier".
Adrienne has also stepped up to help and train and educate Women and Children's Unit Staff, even though that isn't her department and she has no obligation to do this extra work. It is what is best for our patients.
