Cristi advocated for my mom to get the right medication so my mom could rest. Cristi always had a humorous and cheerful way of brightening up the room while still having everything under control. It was obvious that she really knew her stuff but took the time to help her patients laugh and feel hopeful. Her attitude really lightened the mood of all of us.
When I was feeling overwhelmed with too many visitors, I asked Cristi for help in limiting some of that for my mom. I saw how Cristi absolutely went to bat for her patient and discreetly arranged for my mom to get some quiet time and calmed things down when she needed it.
One time my mom began to cry with fear. Cristi immediately focused directly on Mom, saying, "You are going to be okay. I'm watching all your numbers and we will not let you get into danger. You are my priority." It was like they were the only two people in the room, and it reassured my mom immensely. Cristi was able to calm a spiraling situation by communicating kindly and directly with her patient and let her know that she was actively being cared for. Because of the rapport they had built, my mom trusted Cristi and believed her that she was going to be okay. That is the power of a good nurse!
During an extremely stressful time for our whole family, Cristi was such an excellent nurse and really made the difference between a nightmare situation and feeling hopeful about the road to recovery.
Note: This is Cristi's 2nd DAISY Award!
