Tana is a nurse in the CVICU who goes above and beyond for her patients. She most recently was recognized by the physicians for her willingness to jump into an emergent case with a great attitude and no hesitation. This week she did something that really amazed me. I personally witnessed Tana this week spending her entire lunch break advocating for a special needs patient. This patient was currently homeless, and he had not had any glasses for quite some time. He is bed-bound, and without glasses, he was not able to see the television or IPAD that he wanted to use. Tana spent her lunch break calling around to different vision stores, trying to find the best price for glasses. She also wanted to get these glasses quickly, so she wanted to see which store could accommodate this request. She was planning on paying for these glasses out of pocket because she wanted this child to have these much-needed glasses. After finding a store that could have them by the next day, Tana explained what she was doing and asked if they had any special pricing since she would personally be paying for them. The gentleman at the store suggested a few things and resources that could help. At the end of the call, Tana had these glasses free of charge for her patient. I was so impressed with her desire and compassion for trying to help this patient. Not only this but the following day, on her day off, she went and picked up the glasses and hand-delivered them to this patient. When he received the glasses, the patient was so happy. Tana did all of this under the radar, and she showed such compassionate care for this patient she should be recognized. This is just one example of the caring, compassionate nurse that Tana is.
