After reluctantly coming to the hospital and receiving really bad news in the ER, my husband was admitted. His nurse, Ali, was GREAT! She introduced herself to us and told us she was here to take great care of us (and that she did, and more!). Ali was very professional and kind, always went above and beyond her duties. Even though we knew she was busy and had other patients, she never made us feel like she was in a hurry. She took her time with D (my husband), made sure he understood what was going on and always asked if he needed anything additionally. Ali always checked on D and sometimes had little "chats" with him.
She may not know it, but those "little chats" meant a lot to him, they helped him relax and know that she was there for anything he needed. D doesn't like to bother the nurses when he is in the hospital because I am a nurse. He knows my stories of how busy nurses are. Even if he is in a lot of pain, he doesn't call-he waits for the nurse to come into his room.
Ali told him that he is her patient and she is here to take great care of him. He was to call for anything he needed. Well, old habits never die but I do believe he felt very comfortable with Ali and felt like she truly meant what she said. The act that Ali took her time with D made him have confidence in her and made him feel like she cared about him and would do what it took to make him feel better. Thank you so much, Ali, for being a GREAT nurse! You made a difference to D and I will be forever grateful!
