Hannah was absolutely incredible with an autistic, nonverbal, aggressive patient who was coming to the OR for surgery. Hannah gave an incredibly thorough report prior to the patient coming to the OR. She was able to communicate the things that calmed the patient, what was critical for his medical care as well as his mental well being. Hannah answered many questions without hesitation and offered to come to the PACU if we had problems pre or postoperatively. Additionally, Hannah called down to PACU to make sure things were going well and to confirm we felt comfortable. Through Hannah's thorough report and information, we were able to create an environment that was comfortable and safe for the patient. Change can be hard for autistic patients and we were able to work together to do what was best for this patient.
Hannah's information was critical for us to create a safe environment for the patient. She advocated for several things that would positively impact the patient's care and was thoughtful and considerate to not only the patient, but the child life specialist, and the nurses.
