Alyssa Williams admitted a patient from the PICU. When Alyssa found out that the family spoke Spanish she immediately used the IPAD interpreter services provided by St. Louis Children's Hospital. During the conversation with the interpreter, Alyssa found out that Mom had no idea why her child was in the PICU and she wondered what was wrong with her child. Mom had only three conversations with a nurse practitioner (via interpreter IPAD) in the PICU throughout their four-day stay. We were able to provide the family with information related to the patient's illness in Spanish and because they lived over 50 miles away, they were given meal vouchers and a Spanish menu.
Because Alyssa Williams used her critical thinking skills, compassion, effective care, and exceptional service to this family, they were able to get their questions answered appropriately. Alyssa did what was right for her patient, the family, and help to prevent any delay in patient care by using the interpreter IPAD. Thank you, Alyssa, for doing what was right and safe for your patient and family.
