This particular day, Amanda was taking care of a patient who was a frequent admit and knew the hospital life quite well. This patient, always looking for a bright spot in her day, knew that Rosie, the miniature horse from our pet therapy program, was in the hospital. She begged Amanda to call and have Rosie come up to her room.
Unfortunately, Amanda had to deny that request because animals are not allowed in the ICU. But Amanda knew how much this little horse meant to her patient, so she hatched a plan. She put her patient in a wheelchair and searched the hospital for Rosie. If Rosie couldn't come to the patient, Amanda was going to take the patient to Rosie. Her patient was ecstatic that she got to see Rosie. She told everyone! This is but a small glimpse of what Amanda does every day to help her patients. I am incredibly proud and lucky to call her my co-worker.
