Christine Sgrignari is a strong patient advocate and uses her leadership and safety behaviors in her everyday practice.
Christine admitted a patient to the Stroke unit with a diagnosis of sepsis, but upon arrival to the stroke unit, Christine immediately recognized that the patient demonstrated ataxia, which is a stroke symptom, so she immediately called the admitting physician. The admitting physician did not agree with her neuro assessment after she came to reevaluate the patient and did not feel that this patient needed stroke orders because he already had a negative CT scan.
Christine recognized that this patient should be evaluated for stroke so she reached out to a coworker to validate her neuro assessment and then she ARCC'd it up to an attending physician who also shared her concerns and the patient was worked up for a stroke. A Neurology consult was completed the next day and validated Christine's neuro assessment concerns. The patient was diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke secondary to endocarditis and sepsis.
Christine's diligence, assertiveness, and demonstration of leadership behaviors helped ensure that this patient received the correct diagnosis and comprehensive treatment while at HOCC. Christine is a true DAISY Nurse!
