First, I would like to express my extreme gratitude for this program. I was recognized as a faculty recipient in 2015 and understand the meaning and value behind it. Next, I would like to recognize Mark, for his outstanding compassion, care, concern, empathy, and service. I teach hundreds of students each year and rarely come across individuals with his integrity, and attention to detail, faith, and ability to listen.
Mark was so attentive to my mother and our entire family. Mark cried with us and found her needs to be of utmost importance. Caring for her meant going against everything Mark had been taught to do, and I know Mark lost some sleep as a result. We nurses feel we are not doing our job if we are not "doing" something. For my mom, caring for her meant leaving her alone, not turning her at all, and understanding her level of pain.
Mark took the time to know us and serve us as if we were the patient. I found Mark to be delightful, professional at all times and diligent. My mom was an amazing person, so it makes sense that God would give her an amazing nurse. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate my mom's last days. Mark, thank you for ensuring my mom's last days were pain-free. Continue your good work as it is well noticed!
