When my daughter's condition worsened, became critical, and she arrived earlier this year at Neurology ICU at Palmetto Health Richland, Aimee worked unusually hard to see that my daughter had the best care possible. Although I know most nurses work long hours and their work is difficult, Aimee demonstrated unusual compassion for my daughter as if she were her own child. She gave 100 percent. When Aimee left to take care of other patients, she was sorely missed.
Moving from Neurology ICU, where we almost always had a sense of hope, to Palliative Care, where we had to face what we had always dreaded was the most difficult thing my family and I have ever had to do. Aimee played a key role in making possible that difficult move, and making that move memorable in a positive way. Aimee is the sweetest, most personable nurse I have ever met, and I believe she could serve as a role model for other nurses.
Thanks to Aimee, we will forever remember the professional care that she received while she was a patient in Neurology ICU. Although I witnessed the work of many outstanding, caring nurses elsewhere in the Carolinas and at Palmetto Health Richland during the past year, I am singling out and nominating Aimee Hodge, RN, for the DAISY Award. Aimee is an extraordinary nurse, and my family and I will never forget her.
