Lauri is compassionate, smart, and a true professional in all dealings with physicians, families, and patients.Lauri started working at Harrison as a CNA after spending many years working in long-term care in that same role. She workedwhile putting herself through school, and graduated at the top of her class. Her commitment to her education while being a single mother with two small children further exemplifies her willingness to work hard, to put others first, and to achieve her goals. She started her career as a registered nurse in Harrison's ICU, as part of the unit's first residency cohort. At this time, residencies in the ICU were very rare. Because of Lauri's outstanding scholastic achievements, her excellent reputation as a CNA, and her extraordinary people skills, Lauri was awarded this highly-coveted spot in the first residency cohort. Since that time, Lauri has excelled and has become a leader in our unit providing exceptional care to our most vulnerable and unstablepatients.
Lauri is well liked and well respected by both her registered nurse and physician team members in the ICU. She often comes in extra to help during times of high census. She is a sought-after resource in terms of clinical expertise, often being assigned to our most complex, critically ill patients. She always puts her patients first and is a fierce advocate for them. She always makes the time to reassure scared family members and explain the complex inner workingsof the ICU, and makes a special connection with everyone she encounters. She is compassionate and genuine, smart, skilled, and fosters trust and earns respect by listening
and taking the time to involve patients and families in healthcaredecisions.
Lauri often serves as a preceptor for both students and Versant residents, and is exceptional in this role as evidenced by her being nominated as "Preceptor of the Year." She can explain the most complicated pathophysiological abnormalities in a way that is easy to understand and remember. She nurtures new nurses, providing them a safe place to ask questions and feel supported when they are out of their comfort zones. She is a strong advocate for their learning, always calling the night before her shift to make sure her patient assignment is the best for her residents' learning goals. She is a clear communicator and teaches best practices with comfort and ease. She is an outstanding role model for new nurses.
After leaving the state for a year, she eagerly returned home to her ICU family. Having seen different practices and ways of doing things, she has returned with a desire to see practice change in our ICU. She is now the current president of the ICU's Performance Improvement Committee, and brings many innovative ideas regarding the art and practice of nursing to the table. In a few short months, she has initiated quality improvement projects and audits and has further opened up communication with staff by creating a discussion board on the Unit's SharePoint site that is easily accessible to all to share ideas, opinions, and thoughts.
Lauri is passionate about taking care of our patients and our staff. She has lived in Kitsap County all her life, and when she comes to work, her desire is to take excellent, safe, and compassionate care of her neighbors and friends. She is the type of nurse that inspires excellence in nursing, and is an exceptionally worthy recipient of the DAISY Award.
