Claude Gibson RN, has been with our ED for a few years and his experience shows in his work. He has many great things about him: his friendly demeanor, his great attitude, his commitment to the department, his dedication to his patients, his flexibility to the department, and his outstanding patient care. Claude will go without a bite to eat or a sip of water until all his pending patient care tasks are done and done on time. He gets mad at himself if he has a medication that is more than 15 minutes late. Claude's experience in the ED and other hospitals, makes him a very dependable staff member with great assessment skills. Claude is often in triage.
On this past Tuesday night, we were busy with approximately 8 patients waiting to be seen. As I often do, I called Claude and said "I have one room, who do you want to bring back?" Claude said "I don't know, I have a chest pain, a syncope, I have put IV's in them and started the protocols, but I have this guy with the bicycle accident, I have a c-collar on him and I just have a feeling about him." The patient came back, was seen by the ED MD, sent to CT. We got a call immediately from CT - the patient had an unstable C3 fracture. The patient was transferred to a trauma center and treated. Claude has a great attitude, good teamwork and fantastic patient care. Claude and his assessment skills are very valuable to our patients.
