"To demonstrate the human expression of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ", our hospital mission, and the actions of a truly wonderful team of nurses on the Medical Unit.
We had the pleasure of caring for a patient in his 30's, with a long list of chronic, debilitating health issues, who now faced the very difficult decisions of a tracheostomy, and nutrition through artificial means. The patient clearly expressed his wishes and asked for a cheeseburger, and to experience the moon one last time knowing full well the risks with these decisions.
Meggan coordinated transportation to the helipad to view, not only the moon one last time, but a full moon, on a clear, warm night. His family brought him a cheeseburger, and he sat outside and enjoyed this moment, however brief.
The patient was brought back to his room, declined very rapidly and was cared for with professionalism, grace and dignity. He passed the next evening.
Meggan was truly the Human expression of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. I am so proud to work alongside such talented, caring people, and would like to nominate those involved on this particular evening for the DAISY Award.
