Rashell gave us so much peace the day our son almost died from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. She not only reacted swiftly, but she was also calming our family and making us feel that they were doing everything they could. She visited multiple times when he was in ICU, always on her breaks, and one time she took him outside to get fresh air for the first time. When we had to revisit the ED for a kidney stone, she stayed after her shift for us. She is what every nurse should strive to emulate, not only the skill but the heart, dedication, and love for her career.
***
Rashell showed great compassion and composure during a crisis in the ED when a 2-month-old baby was admitted unresponsive and was not able to be revived. The mother was catatonic with grief and the father was distraught over his child and the condition of his wife. Rashell was able to gently explain to him in layman's terms what was happening tohis wife. When the mother did become awake and alert, Rashell helped both parents understand the reality of their loss. Rashell is a strong asset to the pediatric emergency department. She is able to provide skilled nursing care with professionalism and compassion.
