This nurse embodies the idea of compassion and thoughtfulness. 4 West hosted a patient experiencing a life-altering and unexpected diagnosis. The patient had been on our floor for an extended length of time before transferring to a specialized unit for care. Lucy constantly thought about the patient and family, knowing that the patient's wife worked and immediately came to be with the patient until late at night, many times without eating dinner, so Lucy decided to act. With Valentine's day the following day, Lucy planned a festive dinner for the patient and his wife at the hospital. She not only ordered food and set it up, she decorated carts to be wheeled to the patient's new room with hearts, balloons, and battery-powered candles to help the couple take their minds off the troubles of present life. She is not only an amazing clinical nurse, but her infectious spirit and ability to find light in the darkness are reasons why she is always a DAISY Nurse.
