I find it very difficult to describe one specific situation to nominate Tom Padrutt as an extraordinary registered nurse. I was transported via ambulance to the Emergency Room at Winchester Medical Center on Friday and it was discovered that I had a low sodium count. I was admitted to the hospital that same night and I found myself very fortunate to be placed on 5East, the Pulmonary/Renal Unit. It was here that I met the most caring nurse that I have ever encountered in my ninety-three years of life.
Nurse Tom Padrutt has treated me with the utmost respect on every visit in my hospital room. Tom generously communicated with my family members as well as caregivers in order to give me the highest level of care possible. Whenever I asked him questions, he immediately got me the answers.
Tom made me feel that I was his most important patient. He realized that I was in a great amount of pain and he never made light of my pain. On Tuesday as I was grimacing in pain, Tom wanted so badly to help alleviate my pain that he got me one of the newest beds in the hospital, an inflatable bed.
Many times, I felt that Tom treated me like he would his own family member. Any hospital stay is not pleasant; however, nurses like Tom Padrutt make that stay more pleasurable.
