Kristen is truly an exceptional nurse and person. Every once in a while, you will encounter someone who genuinely wants to make a difference in the work that they do. Kristen is that difference. She is always seen with a genuine smile on her face and makes our patients' day better. To best describe Kristen, and what she does for her patients and our unit, please read the following comments from our patients themselves:
***
Nurse Kristen, who even though I kept calling Lauren when my memory was starting to go, took the time to recognize me as a person. She took me downstairs to eat lunch with her on her break because she could tell I just needed to get off the floor and would do anything to get out of the room. She had me and my mom share lunch with her.
***
Kristen is a blessing and an angel. Always smiling. Always happy.
***
Kristen is an exceptional nurse! She had us laughing and smiling.
***
Kristen helped me forget for a while why I was here. She gave me hope.
***
As her nurse manager, there is not a day that goes by that patients do not bring up Kristen by name during Nurse Manager rounding. She is an exemplary inpatient experience, and everyone can learn something from her with her infectious personality and patient-centered approach to her nursing care.
In addition to the stellar patient experience she delivers, Kristen is actively involved in our collaborative care council and is an active CAUTI and mobility champion. She is leading a project on patient education prior to admission for our epilepsy unit (EMU) and is creating a pamphlet with her peers. This past year, she donated her time and helped educate high school juniors and seniors at New Hyde Park High School's annual Healthcare expo. She created a poster and will be doing it again this coming fall.
