Dr. T called the Burn Unit regarding a recently discharged patient with ostomy issues in the ED. Judea is a WOCN certified night nurse in Burn. Although this is not a burn unit patient or in any way connected to the Burn Unit, Judea quickly made arrangement of her busy workload and went to ED to assess the situation. She cleaned the ostomy site up and ordered the appropriate supplies from the central service and reapplied the ostomy pouch. She educated the patient on how to troubleshoot should issues arise again. She spent over an hour with this patient in the ED.
Because of Judea's intervention, a re-admission was avoided. This patient was very pleased with the care received. Judea always goes above and beyond for all her patients. I frequently hear from her patients on the excellent care she provides. We are so fortunate to have Judea in the Burn Unit.
